So if you haven't made it down yet, you'd better make plans for today. The festival opens at noon and closes at 6 o'clock so make sure you grab your fill of all the ethnic food and dance you can fit into 6 hours. But you say you can't make it because you're going to the Pens game? That doesn't start until 3 and we're right down the hill. Stop by for a lunch with us instead of the overpriced nachos at the arena. Don't forget, the International Cooking Show continues today and was a big hit yesterday so don't miss out! So hurry and come on down and we'll see you there.

Getting ready for Day 2

Only one hour to go until we kick off day number two of this year's festival. Today, the longest day of the Folk Festival, we will also be kicking off the Family Activity Area as well as the start of our 2nd International Cooking Show which will be featuring cooking demonstrations of some fine ethnic foods that you can make in your very own home. Our two-part feature performances kick off later this afternoon after the children's matinee which is also very exciting for the whole family. In other words, today is the best day to spend at the festival if you want to come for lunch and then stay for dinner and be entertained in between. Oh yeah, and stay after that for some wonderful desserts. See you there!

Folk Festival Preview

Well, after 353 days of preparation and 3 days of setup and rehearsals, we are ready to open our 52nd festival. This year, we start out with an incredible test. The Around the World in One Day program will give school students from around the Pittsburgh area a chance to tour what the festival has to offer and more with the rest of their class on a field trip on Friday morning. Over 2000 students will be on hand to open our festival and help celebrate Pittsburgh's 250th birthday of cultural heritage. City and county officials will be there in a special cake-cutting ceremony for this city's special milestone.

Then on to the main event!!!

Stop by after work as the festival opens for dinner at 4pm. A special Grand March will officially kickoff the evening's performances at 6:45pm with emcees Wendy Bell and Mike Clark from WTAE Channel 4.
