A surprising announcement was made by football legend, Italy Roberto Mancini . He decided to resign from his position as coach of Gli Azzurri. Currently, the FIGC is trying to find a replacement.
“Roberto Mancini has resigned from the post of coach of the Italian national team. Currently, the FIGC is looking for the best option for the Azzurri team,” wrote the Italian football federation via its official Twitter account.
Mancini was recruited to coach the Italian national team in 2018. He was appointed as Gli Azzurri coach to replace Gian Piero Ventura after failing to lead the Pizza Country to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.
In Mancini’s hands, Gli Azzurri went fast. After only two years in office, the man who has strengthened Inter Milan and Lazio has succeeded in presenting the European Cup title to Italy. In the final round, Italy silenced the Football is Coming Home chant by beating England on penalties.
He was praised for his courage in calling young players into his team. One of them was when he trusted Nicolò Zaniolo, even before making his debut in Serie A.
Unfortunately, Roberto Mancini’s magic quickly faded. After leading Italy to become the champion of the Blue Continent, he actually failed to lead his team to qualify for the 2022 World Cup which took place in Qatar. Mancini’s face was stained after Italy surprisingly lost 0-1 in the play-off semi-final to North Macedonia.
Sadly, this defeat was experienced by Gli Azzurri when he appeared before the public himself.
The FIGC did not say why Mancini had resigned. Likewise with Mancini. The man who is now 58 years old has not issued an official statement regarding his departure from the Azzurri squad.
It’s just that, as is known, Mancini has just gone through two emotional moments in a row. Earlier this year, he lost good friend and former national team delegation leader Gianluca Vialli to pancreatic cancer. Vialli died when he was 58 years old. Three weeks earlier, Mancini also lost his former teammate, Sinisa Mihajlovic due to the same thing.
Roberto Mancini replacement candidates appear
Meanwhile, a number of candidates who are considered worthy of replacing Mancini began to appear. And Copa90 assesses that there are at least 5 coaches who have the potential to handle Gli Azzurri in the future.
They are considered the most likely because they are currently still unemployed.
